Resumé

Beschreiwung
English: The Dome, Church Street. Head south down Jubilee Street then east down Church Street. The Dome was originally constructed as riding stables for the Pavilion between 1803-08. The old entrance is the first on the left. The building was sold to Brighton Corporation with the Pavilion by Victoria in 1850. Between 1856-64 they were let as cavalry stables and from 1867 the northern end housed the Dome Concert Hall, something it is still used for today. In fact it hosted the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest which was won that year by Abba. The southern end was shared by the city's museum and library until the latter moved out in the late 1990s to temporary accommodation. The former has expanded into the space left by the latter. Two buildings on the right deserve a mention. The red bricked building is the former County Court built in 1869 on the site of an old infantry barracks and remained in use until 1967 when it moved to new premises. For a while it was a store for the library but is now empty. The grey building beyond it was erected in 1925 as a Gas Showroom becoming the Music Library after the war and now it too is empty.
